Tammy Ashworth of Waldorf, MD, started her weekend off
on the right step by
drawing
her lucky number 18 for her Saturday qualifying round.
(Nascar’s Bobby Labonte is her favorite driver and he
drives the #18 Interstate Battery car.)
That luck rolled right on over into Sunday as Tammy
captured her 3rd star, defeating Kim Yeagy of Perry Hall, MD.
Tammy’s Saturday qualifying score of 1,100 placed her
in Division D where she went
on to
accumulate a 4 1/2 -1/2 record, with 731 in pinfall seeding her
first in the ladder finals.
The first match saw Wild Card Betty Bartley of Arnold, MD
defeat the #4 seed, Denise Bonneau of Providence, RI 159-150.
Betty then went on to face #3 seed Andrea Lanahan of
Catonsville, MD. Andrea,
bowling in her first tour this year after recent surgery, was
victorious over Betty 151-130.
She then faced #2 seed, Kim Yeagy, who took control of
the match early and earned a 175-136 victory.
It was then Tammy’s turn to shine as she defeated Kim in
the championship match 131-116 to take home the $1,200 top
prize.
In addition to the winner’s check, Tammy received a
plaque and star presented to
her by Dennis
Shriver of AMF College Park.
Kim received a check for $600.00; Andrea $400.00; Betty
$265.00 and Denise $215.00.
All five finalists also received a Home Interior candle
with a ceramic designer shade.
Tammy is extremely grateful to her children, Brittany
and Aaron who put the red and
white shoe
ties in her bowling shoes on Friday for good luck.
Guess they worked, kids!
Tammy also wants to thank Chris for “continually pushing
me to bowl and practice no matter how hard I kick and scream at
times and thanks to all my supporters and friends for their kind
words of congratulations. Special thanks to everyone at
College Park for a great weekend!”
This victory was extra special for Tammy as it got her
within one point of qualifying for induction into the Hall of
Fame.
Congratulations, Tammy, on Star #3!
